The Gospel of Mark
The Power of King Jesus
Mark 1:9–13
In the 1990s a movement took the world by storm coming by way of the acronym WWJD. It’s a good question, what would Jesus do? In this passage, however, we look at two questions more important: who is Jesus and what did he do?
Mark 1:1–8
We begin a series on the Gospel of Mark today with one of the most unusual men in the Bible - John the Baptist. He ushers in the arrival of Jesus and in our text we will stand in awe of God's sovereignty, John's humility, and Jesus' supremacy.
Introduction
Mark wastes no time getting to the heart of his Gospel: Who is Jesus? From its opening lines, Mark presents Jesus not merely as a teacher or miracle worker, but as the promised King in whom God himself has drawn near. And as we encounter his astonishing authority, gracious mercy, and call to discipleship, Mark invites us not only to discover who Jesus is, but to consider what it means to follow him.
