In this week's text the rebuilding of Jerusalem begins, finally! In itself it's a beautiful story of a people coming together and committed to a common goal. But more than that, and in the fullness of time, Nehemiah 3 paints a picture of the church coming together in unity, diversity and humility for the sake of Christ.

In chapter 1 Nehemiah heard the sad news of the state of the city and people of Jerusalem. After four months of prayer and preparation Nehemiah is allowed the opportunity to return to the city and in doing so reminds the church of its call today and the better Nehemiah to come.

We launch a new series this week in the book of Nehemiah by understanding the context and the lead up to the events of the book. We end by looking specifically at the prayer of Nehemiah in chapter 1 and seeing what we can learn from it and about Nehemiah himself.
